You need to rent a car in order to travel around. I have had a base stay in Merida. Merida is general overpriced and that doesnt mean the quality will follow for the value of the money. Merida itself is not interesting at all.

We really liked the city.
We really liked the city. You need to understand the bus situation and we tried, bought bus passes, tried using them but they were not coded the way our phone was displaying so we ended up using taxi service for all of our visitations to museums, central, restaurants, etc. It wasn't expensive but much more than the simple bus or combi travel would have been. Merida has lots to offer, especially with tours outside of the city, a bus trip to the beach in Progresso for 25 pesos each way, very cheap, cenotes, pyramids, on and on!

Merida is a big, historic, busy city surrounded by Mayan ruins, historic haciendas and beautiful cenotes. The Merida restaurant scene has everything from chef owned culinary gems to family run taco shops. There are many excellent tour guides available for in-depth exploration of the city and surroundings or one can do so on their own using public transportation or with a rental car.
Food and service were the highlights of this property. Hotel is beautifully designed and decorated, everything is so clean and smells so nice, food is just unforgettable and honestly the best we had in entire Mexico. Staff is true 5-star, very caring, professional and friendly. Special thanks to Efrain and Atir for going above and beyond and making our stay truly memorable! This place deserves to be in top 5 hotels in Mexico and we dare to say that Ritz and Four Seasons will have something to learn from them too.
We had an amazing time at this hotel.
Our room was clean, comfortable and big. We used the pool frequently and although it is somewhat small it served its purpose.
We really liked the design and vibe of the place; kind of colonial but modern.
It was a very calm place and we had no trouble relaxing and feeling at home.
The breakfast was one of the best and biggest we had in Mexico.
Esther was a really nice and attentive. She noticed when we needed anything, sometimes even before noticed ourselves.
Good location, within easy walking distance of the center of town and the ADO bus terminal. The Hotel and rooms looked great, the U shaped pool was long enough to swim laps. We dropped of our luggage a few hours before check-in, stayed by the reception, for a very small fee. They were doing some repainting, workers were unobtrusive and quiet. WIFI and water pressure was better than most places I stayed in Mexico. Beds were fairly comfortable. It would be a great value if not for the issues.
Literally everything was outstanding: the staff (super responsive via WhatsApp, before, during, and after our stay), the place itself with spotless clean and spacious rooms in the middle of this tropical paradise of a hacienda, to the food, and the excellent location if you want to visit Uxmal, Chizen Itza, and Merida. The hotel will also organize local travel and sightseeing trips for you if you want.
If you are in Yucatan, this is THE place to stay at.
This hotel was the best we had have in Mexico. Our bedroom had two entrance, one facing the terrace and the swimming pool, size and furniture of the Bedroom are amazing and very comfortable for two people. The hotel in general is looking amazing, the staff is super nice and always ready to help and recommend places. We were impressed by the cuisine, we had breakfast and dinner there multiple times. Will definitely go back.
The location is great, everything is super clean, and the rooms and reception areas are inviting. Receptionist Adrianna was especially kind and helpful to me. I appreciate the coffee (even a latte or cappuccino) that is available upon request.
I have visited Merida many times over the past twenty-five years and stayed in numerous hotels there. When I return, this will be my “go to” place.
Value for money was excellent. Location couldn't be better. Very clean. Staff were friendly. Good wifi. Good AC. Based on other reviews we were a bit hesitant but for the price we were really happy.
The hot water was intermittent, but we have found this is consistent with other hotels around this price point in Mexico so didn't put us off wanting to stay again.
The location of the Hotel was very good with walking distance to almost anywhere we wanted to go in downtown Merida. The rooms were very clean and spacious. The staff was very nice and helpful. It was nice to have the parking garage next door.
Viva Mérida Boutique hotel exceeded my expectations! This charming hotel not only has a ton of character, but is also in a central location. The staff was always pleasant and ready to assist with any request. Do not hesitate to stay here!
Absolutely beautiful, huge, and comfortable rooms with very understanding and respectful hosts, particularly since we arrived in chaos and needing some help to leave Merida, and Mexico, after 10 months.
Location was great! Everything near by. I loved the courtyard and atmosphere.
My kids thought the beds were hard, but I slept fine.
This is not a luxury hotel, but it was clean and had character.
- The hosts are welcoming and extremely helpful;
- The rooms are neat, fully equipped and spacious;
- The area;
- Hot water, which is not to be taken for granted in Mexico.
It is exactly what I needed at the end of a backpacking trip through Mexico! everything was clean and they had a pool which was nice - service was also friendly!
I like the location of the hotel you're closer to all the nightlife of Mérida at least on downtown area. You achieve many interesting places just by walking.
